The Beehive State may be primarily known for its stunning scenery, but we've also got some pretty tasty local food. Of course, there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Utah where you can always pick up a great meal, but there are also some great dishes we're known for making at home. Check out a few of our favorite Utah foods below ... some of them can be obtained in other states, but true Utahns know they taste much better when had at home!
1. Utah Scones
Sure, every state has scones, but the ones you'll find in Utah are a little different. Ours are more like frybread. Put just a little bit of honey butter on them and you're in for an absolutely delectable treat!
2. Bear Lake Raspberries
Succulent and sweet, raspberries from Bear Lake are hands down the best around. The Bear Lake Valley's elevation and climate mean that the raspberries grown here are incredibly sweet and flavorful.
3. Funeral Potatoes
This amazing casserole is made of hash browns, condensed cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and cheese, all topped with crushed potato chips. It's not just for funerals, it's great for any event!
4. Utah Tomatoes
Tomatoes grown in Utah have a distinctive taste. They've got just the right blend of acidity and sweetness that combine to make something delectable.
5. Pastrami Burgers
Crown Burger is a local Utah chain that's absolutely beloved by those who grew up here. According to local legend, it's the first spot to combine a cheeseburger with pastrami. Now, it's one of the most-loved foods in Utah.
6. Ice Cream Shakes
You can get milkshakes anywhere, of course, but they're a little different in Utah. Here, we like our ice cream shakes to be creamy confections so thick that you have to eat them with a spoon. Iceberg Drive In is known for having some of the best shakes in Utah. The place has been around for 60 years and it feels like it hasn't changed at all in the decades that have passed!
7. Green Jell-O
In the past, Utah was famous for its close ties with green Jell-O. It is served less frequently today, but even so, it's still popular enough that the state created a green Jell-O Olympic pin in 2002.
8. Utah Corn
The Midwest claims to have the best corn in the country... but those of us who have had the delight of tasting Utah corn know much better!
9. Dutch Oven Dinners
The Dutch oven is the official cooking pot of Utah. It stands to reason that our state is definitely number one when it comes to cooking Dutch oven dinners.
10. Green River Melons
The sandy soil, hot days, and cool nights of the Green River Valley make it the perfect site for growing the absolute best melons in Utah.
11. Fry Sauce
Whether you love it or hate it, fry sauce is definitely a Utah thing. There are many different recipes around, but the easiest way to make it is to combine mayonnaise and ketchup.
12. Aggie Blue Mint Ice Cream
The creamery at Utah State makes this delicious ice cream that's a great flavor you can't find anywhere else. It's got chunks of Oreo cookies and white chocolate bits and it's so amazing.
13. Brigham City Peaches
Bite into a sweet, juicy, locally-grown Utah peach and you'll never want to eat a grocery store peach again.
14. Utah Honey
Utah produces some absolutely delicious honey that's some of the best around. What do you expect? After all, we are the Beehive State!
