Sometimes it is fun to take a step back in time. Photographs can take us to a time and place where things were much more simple. Even Utah's major cities — Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, and St. George — once moved at a much slower pace. We've gathered a handful of historic photos from these cities to imagine a time long ago. Things truly were different back then.
Salt Lake City
Here is a view of Salt Lake City, taken from a hill in the Salt Lake Valley around 1900.
This image was captured on the west side of East Temple Street in Salt Lake City in approximately 1900.

Here you can see the Salt Lake City skyline circa 1913.
This photo shows the exterior of the Salt Lake City Airport in 1950. At that time, this was only a municipal airport, rather than the international airport that we know today.
Ogden

See what we mean — things really did move at a slower pace! This image shows a cart on 25th Street, heading toward the mountains around 1900.
Provo
Here is a photo of Brigham Young Academy in the early 1900s. Brigham Young Academy did not become a university until 1903.
Taken between 1900 and 1920, this image is looking east on Center Street toward the Utah State Hospital.
St. George

Here you see the Old Washington County Courthouse in St. George, Utah, in 1940. This building was built in 1876 and it is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
