As a lifelong resident of the Lone Star State, I can say with 100% certainty that I have firm roots in Texas. After all, what's not to love about this incredible place we call home? We produced the best soda (Dr Pepper) and ice cream (Blue Bell) known to man, we're the birthplace of the best gas station on earth (Buc-ee's), and we have more Southern hospitality than you can shake a stick at...and the list goes on. If you're just as proud to be a Texan as I am, check out this list of 11 surefire signs you have strong roots in Texas. I can relate to all of these - what about you?
1. You know the best part of any road trip isn't the final destination - it's stopping at Buc-ee's.
Two words: beaver nuggets. (If you know, you know.)
2. Football isn't just a sport - it's a way of life.
Those Friday Night Lights are pure magic.
3. You know how to pronounce this.
And Gruene, and Pflugerville, and Marathon...the list goes on.
4. You measure distance in time rather than miles.
After all, when your state is nearly 900 miles across, all that matters is how long it takes to get from Point A to Point B.
5. No matter what anyone else says, you know that beans do not belong in chili.
Texas chili forever.
6. This sign doesn't leave you scratching your head in wonder.
We do some crazy things during football season...and we aren't ashamed to admit that.
7. You're very particular about your BBQ.
Plenty of states claim to have the best BBQ in the nation, but we Texans know the real truth.
8. When spring rolls around, you automatically start scouting the roadsides for a good spot to take family pictures.
What can we say? It's tradition.
9. Seeing a photo like this brings up a visceral feeling in your body.
It isn't summer until you float the Comal...or the Frio, or the Guadalupe, or the San Marcos - you get the idea.
10. Southern hospitality is something you practice every day without even thinking about it.
Up north, not everyone will hold doors open for you, but here in Texas, it's second nature.
11. You aren't afraid to put your Texas pride on full display no matter where you are.
Everything really is bigger (and better) here.
