When thinking about where to move, safety is usually a very important factor in the decision. Texas offers plenty of peaceful, safe cities and towns to settle down in, but we have compiled a list of the cream of the crop as far as safety goes. Here are some of the safest places to live in Texas, taking into consideration data from several sources:
1) Murphy
Murphy is a historic town Northeast of Dallas that dates to the early 1900s. It earns top spot among the safest towns in Texas for its low crime rates.
2) Colleyville
This affluent Fort Worth suburb has virtually nothing in the way of violent crimes, even with its population of roughly 26,000, making it one of the safest cities in Texas.
3) Highland Village
A suburb of Dallas, this town has a population of around 16,000 and enjoys close proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, as well as low crime rates.
4) Hutto
This town of 19,513 people is part of the Austin-Round Rock metro area. It's been called the safest town in Texas; Hutto had less than 100 total reported crimes in 2018, which is an incredible accomplishment for a mid-size city. Furthermore, only 11 of those offenses were violent in nature -- the rest fell under the 'property crime' umbrella.
5) Memorial Villages
The six villages that make up this area include Spring Valley Village, Piney Point Village, Bunker Hill Village, Hedwig Village, Hilshire Village and Hunters Creek Village are considered among the safest towns in Texas.
6) Flower Mound
Named after the 12.5 acre flower mound located in the center of the town, Flower Mount is one the best all-around cities to live in Texas. With a population of just over 80,000, Flower Mound is a lively Dallas suburb that offers a refreshing change of pace from the big city. Flower Mound is fast-growing - both economically and in size - but it still manages to retain that quintessential small-town charm we all know and love -- as well as low crime rates and cost of living!
7) Royse City
A great town with great neighborhood restaurants, you'll feel right at home in the city that deems itself "A Friendly Touch of Texas."
8) Friendswood
Located just outside the Houston metro area, you will find quality schools and hard-working, friendly people here. With low property and violent crime rates, Friendswood is among the safest towns in Texas!
9) University Park
A longstanding town on the list of safest towns in Texas, University Park is an inner suburb of Dallas with a population of around 25,000 and proportionally low crime rates.
10) Keller
While Keller has grown steadily in the last decade or so, it still maintains its small-town feel, and continues to rank among the safest towns in Texas.
