You have inside jokes with your friends, your co-workers, and your siblings, but did you know you also have them with your home state? It's true, and proven by these 9 hilarious jokes that nobody from outside of Texas will truly understand:
1. Wind turbines or huge fans?
...if only. Someone needs to invent a giant fan that cools off the entire state. While we may not like the extreme cold this winter has brought us, we sure as heck don't love the blistering heat we're about to be hit with either.
2. How we see the rest of the country.
The only thing bigger than Texas itself just might be our pride. I don't know what to say other than we're the best and we'll take every opportunity to make sure the rest of the country is aware of that fact.
3. The weather just can't seem to make up its mind.
It's sad how accurate this can be sometimes. Let's hope for more days like the top and less like the bottom this spring, shall we? I don't know how much more cold and ice my Texas blood can handle.
4. Horses are our preferred method of transportation here in Texas.
This one might be a little far-fetched and definitely not an everyday sight, but it certainly brings to light the stereotypes surrounding our state. I can't tell you how many times Northerners have asked me if I ride my horse to work or have to stop for tumbleweeds to blow across the street.
5. There are so many mosquitoes, we might as well have designated areas for them to cross the road.
Personally, I think the mosquito sign should be bigger than the one above it — there are definitely more of those nasty vermin to watch out for than kids! One thing I haven't missed this winter is the onslaught of mosquitoes that Texas humidity bestows upon us.
6. Every Texan's childhood involved these evil, prickly things more than we'd like to admit.
If you thought stepping on a lego was painful, you've never had to yank one of these bad boys out of your foot. Us Texans will probably never stop walking around barefoot in the summertime, so it's just something we'll always have to deal with, I suppose.
7. Let's play a little game called "how to tell when someone isn't from Texas."
Hint: anyone who isn't driving something that looks similar to this.
8. See #4.
This is such a common occurrence here that we don't even bat an eye when it happens. We know to prepare ourselves with umbrellas, raincoats, parkas, boots, shorts, and tank tops all in the same season (and sometimes in the same day.) There's a saying that goes, "Welcome to Texas. If you don't like the weather, stick around — it'll change," and that couldn't be a more accurate sentiment.
9. It isn't our fault we aren't used to winter weather!
That would be like expecting Northerners to know exactly what to do during a hurricane. Two different worlds, y'all.
