We native Texans already knew this, but now, the rest of the country has to accept it as fact. Food & Wine recently named H-E-B the number one supermarket in America, citing reasons such as low prices, in-store tortillerias, and curbside pickup. Learn more:
The H-E-B legacy began more than 100 years ago when Florence Butt opened the C.C. Butt Grocery Store in her Kerrville family home. Her youngest son, Howard Edward Butt, took over upon returning from WWI, and his initials became the store name shortly thereafter.
A recent survey by Food & Wine names H-E-B the No. 1 supermarket in America, beating out nationwide giants. The magazine cited reasons such as affordable pricing, tortillas made in-house, and the unparalleled curbside pickup program for the ranking.
Though out-of-staters might be left scratching their heads, we native Texans aren't surprised by the results one bit. Our loyalty to H-E-B runs deep — so deep, in fact, that many of us flat out refuse to shop anywhere else.
Not every grocery store boasts a full-service deli, but H-E-B sure does. Whether you need gourmet cheeses for a charcuterie board or freshly sliced cold cuts to make sandwiches, rest-assured you'll find exactly what you need.
Thanks to the H-E-B bakery, dessert has never tasted so good. Cookies, donuts, brownies, and cupcakes galore bring all your sweetest dreams to life. They even make custom cakes for birthday parties and other special occasions!
Store brand ice cream isn't always worth writing home about, but that all changes when it's Creamy Creations. Classic and seasonal flavors fill the shelves year-round, delighting customers with their richness and undeniably smooth texture.
Another important thing to highlight is the unwavering hospitality shown by H-E-B. Be it a pandemic or natural disaster, the store is always ready to help wherever possible. Take this photo for example: during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak in Texas, H-E-B offered to-go meals from local restaurants to help them stay afloat amid shutdown orders.
