We know that there are quite a few movies that are filmed in Tennessee, but what about the motion pictures that actually feature our great state as a backdrop? Sure, Nashville makes a cameo in "The Matrix" and you'll find a glimpse of the Memphis skyline in "The Silence of the Lambs," but what we're actually interested in is a movie that exalts our great state to its fullest extent.
7. Country Strong
Gwyneth Paltrow spent quite a bit of time in Nashville during the filming of "Country Strong" back in the early 2000s. Although the film criss-crosses the nation, the Nashville-based country singer bears the brunt of the film and represents the dark underbelly of Tennessee's music scene.
6. Hannah Montana: The Movie
It came as no surprise that Franklin-born Miley Cyrus would base her aptly named film in the heart of Tennessee. Miley rambles around Nashville and its suburbs in this cutesy, Disney-helmed film.
5. The Client
A John Grisham masterpiece, "The Client" follows a young boy as he attempts to untangle himself from his role as a witness in a local Mafia killing. You'll be on the edge of your seat, and may just catch a glimpse of Memphis, Tennessee and a solid minute in New Orleans.
4. The Blind Side
"The Blind Side" made waves upon its release a few years ago, and continues to be one of the most heartwarming films based in Tennessee. You'll spend a lot of time in Memphis throughout the whole of this semi-biographical film.
3. The Firm
This Tom Cruise-led classic takes place in Memphis, and follows a young attorney who finds himself caught up in some pretty insidious business dealings. It's the John Grisham novel that shook the nation, and the whole thing is set in the heart of western Tennessee.
2. An American Haunting
This retelling of Tennessee's famed Bell Witch haunting is one of the best in recent years. Although the film is fairly vague about the setting, there's no mistaking the story of John Bell and his family's vicious 19th century haunting.
1. Walk the Line
Walk the Line tends to wander about the country, since it follows Johnny Cash throughout his childhood, rise to fame and his highly lauded romance with June Carter. This gorgeous story has garnered multiple Academy Awards including Tennessee-born Reese Witherspoon's Best Actress Oscar.
