When it comes to states people actively try to visit on a bucket list, it's entirely reasonable to say that South Dakota is probably not the place most folks will think of first (unless, of course, it's time for Sturgis). But our little corner of the nation is a bit more nuanced than that; as it turns out, South Dakota has a long list of fun facts and intriguing trivia to sort through. Okay, I looked it up: Florida has 5,095 miles of shoreline versus South Dakota, which, thanks to its 801 lakes, has 33,904 miles of shoreline - more than any other state in the US.
Amazingly, it is considered to be the "Eighth Wonder of the World" in the making. Lots of places claim to be the 8th wonder... but this one is going to be it.
Other notable sites include the nothing-short-of-incredible Mammoth Site, which is home to the largest known concentration of mammoth remains in the world. Lucky us!
