South Carolina and her people have made great progress since the first English settlement here at Albemarle Point in 1670. And with progress comes change. Unfortunately, change sometimes forces things into a state of decay, collapse or disintegration. We call that state of disrepair a "ruin."
The ruins throughout South Carolina carry within them stories and impressions of the past. It's why photographers love them so much. Within every photo of an abandoned or ruined structure there are too many words to count. These images exude a beauty in their expression of days gone by.
