'Tis the season for haunted houses, spooky stories, and all things eerie. And since Rhode Island is one of the country's oldest states, there's definitely a haunted history here. That being said, some of the most haunting things you'll see in this state have nothing to do with paranormal activity. Check out this incredible drone footage of the abandoned Andrews Mill by Jason Allard and you'll see what we mean.
The Andrews Mill Company Plant is a historic industrial complex located in North Smithfield.
The current buildings were constructed in 1918 after the former mill at this site burned down.
The complex has three historic buildings: the main weave shed, a boiler house, and a freestanding machine shop.
There are also a few other newer buildings onsite.
The Branch River once provided quite the power source in the form of the Branch River Dam.
This area has seen industrial uses of some form since at least 1795 when the water power of the river was first utilized. The mill's original water tower still sits in the nearby woods.
This place was once home to a maker of French worsted wool textiles, part of a major industrial development push in the area.
The roof was designed to assist i textile manufacturing by allowing more natural light to flow in.
The property was leased to several different companies over the years.
But in 2014, the company that owned the property filed for bankruptcy, and the entire thing was abandoned. Household appliances, office supplies, and other items were all left behind.
Recently, a nonprofit group acquired the property.
The group plans to turn the old mill into an affordable housing complex. But in the meantime, it remains eerily abandoned.
The abandoned Andrews Mill is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Check out this incredible drone footage:
