How lucky are we Pittsburghers? We live in a pretty amazing city with equally amazing people. But, how often do we stop to appreciate all that's around us? All that the city has to offer us? Probably not often enough. Here are 10 things Pittsburghers take for granted.
1. We’re the City of Champions
We're pretty fortunate to live in a town with teams that know how to win. No other city can call itself the City of Champions. Pittsburgh owns that title.
2. The many spectacular views of the city skyline
Pittsburgh's skyline really is second to none. We're incredibly fortunate to have so many spots to view the city skyline in all of its glory. Mount Washington and exiting the Fort Pitt Tunnel on the Pittsburgh side are arguably two of the Burgh's best views.
3. All 446 bridges
Pittsburgh holds the title of the city with the most bridges, even surpassing Venice, Italy. All those bridges certainly are beautiful and make traveling much more convenient. Well, sometimes. So many bridges also make it a lot easier to get lost.
4. An eclectic array of world class museums
No Pittsburgher can legitimately claim boredom. Pittsburgh offers plenty to do, including a plethora of world class museums. The Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Science Center, the Mattress Factory, and the Andy Warhol Museum are only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
5. All the natural beauty that surrounds us
Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas are simply breathtaking, wouldn't you say? We're also lucky to be within driving distance of spectacular parks. Ohiopyle State Park, for example, boasts Ohiopyle Falls (photo above), Cucumber Falls, and thousands of acres of lush green.
6. Whispers of the past
Listen carefully. Everywhere you go in Pittsburgh you're likely to hear the whispers of the city's rich past. Pittsburgh lays claim to the oldest continuously operating funicular (the Monongahela Incline), welcomes guests to tour Fort Pitt, and the Heinz History Center celebrates our rich heritage.
7. The unbridled creativity
Pittsburghers are creative. No two ways about it. Just take a look at Randyland, an artist's masterpiece in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood. Or, step inside The Arcade Theater or the Benedum Center. Pittsburgh's creativity is on display just about everywhere you go.
8. An assortment of scrumptious foods
Have you ever left Pittsburgh - even just for a vacation - and really craved the food from home? The homemade pierogies? The Primanti Brothers sandwiches? The desserts from Oakmont Bakery, Grandview Bakery, and Prantl's Bakery? How lucky are we to live in a city that appreciates such delicious food?
9. The people
Pittsburghers really are amazing people. Loyal. Giving. Full of heart. The Burgh wouldn't be as amazing as it is without yinzers.
10. Living here
We're lucky to live here, something we probably take for granted time to time. We've got access to some of the country's leading medical facilities, universities, and restaurants. What more could we ask for?
