Life’s pretty good in the Burgh, isn’t it? And, most of us would probably admit that we’re pretty spoiled living in such an amazing city. Skeptical about that? Just leave Pittsburgh for a while, and you’ll quickly start longing for all that makes our hometown so special - from the cravings for fries on sandwiches to wistfully wishing for a Pittsburgh snow day. But, if you'd rather not leave to discover how the Burgh spoils you for life, just keep reading. Here are nine reasons living in Pittsburgh spoils you for life.
1. Winning: It’s a Burgh thing.
Pittsburgh’s earned the title "The City of Champions" for a reason. Our pro sports teams know how to win. The Steelers and the Penguins, in particular, have brought championships home to the Burgh in recent years. But, winning goes beyond the field. We’ve also got award-winning educational and medical facilities.
2. Traditions are a big part of life.
From cookie tables to waving the terrible towel, you’ll love all the quirky and endearing traditions we Pittsburghers follow. What is your favorite? Tailgating before Steelers games? Kicking off the holiday season downtown on Light Up Night? Or, celebrating the New Year at First Night?
3. Mmm…mmm…the food.
Pittsburgh’s a foodie town and for good reason. We’ve got plenty of restaurants – and food trucks – from which to choose when we want to dine out. Oh, but it gets better. Local church and community fairs and food festivals during the summer mean scrumptious homemade food.
4. We can always find something to do and…
You just can’t get bored in the Burgh. Well, you can. But, if you do, you’ve just not tried hard enough to find something to do. After all, we’ve got plenty of awesome amusement parks (Kennywood and Sandcastle), magnificent museums (The Carnegie Museums and Heinz History Center), and other awesome attractions (The National Aviary and Phipps Conservatory).
5. Some place new to discover.
Even if you’ve lived here your whole life, you’ll always discover something new – whether it’s a cutting-edge new restaurant, a family-friendly attraction, or a new event.
6. We’ve got one of the world’s best skylines.
Stand atop Mount Washington or emerge from the Fort Pitt Tunnel for sensational views of the downtown Pittsburgh skyline. In fact, you can find plenty of places to get picture-perfect views of the city.
7. We’re surrounded by natural beauty.
Finding tranquility – and beauty – in the middle of the city is easy. Natural beauty’s everywhere you look – from Frick Park to Mellon Square. So, when we need a bit of quiet in the middle of a hectic day, we’ve got plenty of places to go.
8. We know how to throw an awesome party.
Pittsburghers love to celebrate. And, we’ll get together as a city to party for all the special occasions – from gathering to watch the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade to finding a spot to watch the Fourth of July fireworks.
9. It’s always a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Sure, Pittsburgh can get a bad rap from those who’ve never been here. But, if you live here, you know that we’re all pretty friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand.
