Pittsburgh gets a pretty bad rap sometimes. We'll all heard reasons why people should never move to Pittsburgh or why they don't like our beautiful city. Here are 10 reasons we've all likely heard about why some people would never move to Pittsburgh.
1. Smog, smog, and more smog.
Can't you just feel your chest tightening looking at the smog covering the Pittsburgh skyline?
2. The sun never shines in Pittsburgh.
Unfortunately, living in Pittsburgh means dealing with constant clouds and persistent rain. We don't even really know what the sun looks like.
3. We have absolutely nothing to do...
Kennywood, Sandcastle, the three rivers, the Carnegie Museums, the Cultural District...if only we had something to do in Pittsburgh to keep us from getting bored.
4. A non-existent nightlife…
We're all in bed by nine each night, right?
5. Cultural scene and…
Culture. What's that?
6. Absolutely no quiet spots in which to relax.
If only we had a place to escape the busyness of every day life - like a vibrant city park (Frick Park, Schenley Park, Highland Park) or a sprawling state park (Keystone State).
7. But, that's okay, because all we care about is sports.
Don't we?
8. We only speak Pittsburghese.
And, if you move to Pittsburgh, you'll speak it too. It just becomes a part of you whether you like it or not.
9. We never leave Pittsburgh but that's okay because...
That international airport of ours? It only brings in arrivals. Once you get here, you're stuck.
10. We're too far from the nearest major city anyway.
We're stuck in a vast span of nothingness with no major cities near us. Unless, of course, you consider Cleveland, Washington DC, and Philly, all within half a day's drive or less from downtown Pittsburgh.
Never move to Pittsburgh because, if you do, one day you might leave - whether for a vacation or permanently - and you'll become so very homesick for the Burgh.
