Driving in Pennsylvania can be, at best, challenging. We’ve all run into the tailgaters, the drivers who slow down in the fast lane, and those who have seemingly forgotten how to use a turn signal. Even when we're doing everything right, we can't always count on other drivers to do the same. Some roads are more dangerous than others, but one has earned the sobering title of the most dangerous road in Pennsylvania.
Interstate I-80 is the most dangerous road in Pennsylvania, a study by Car Insurance Comparison found.
If you've wondered, "Is I-80 dangerous," the answer is yes, it is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Pennsylvania.

Route 80 in Pennsylvania has consistently ranked at the top of the worst roads in the state.

The number of traffic fatalities in 2023, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) found, tallied 1,209, up from 1,179 in 2022.
A number of factors contribute to the danger of I-80, a popular highway with tractor-trailers. The busy highway is plagued with numerous hazards, including potholes and sharp curves.
Because portions of I-80 travel through the mountains, drivers often deal with poor visibility. Weather, including fog and icy conditions, also contributes to crashes.
Don't forget to take your GPS when you're traveling.
I-80 isn’t just the most dangerous road in Pennsylvania. It also earned a nod as the most dangerous road in several other states, too, including Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming.
