Some things will just never change – like the bumper-to-bumper traffic on the parkway during rush hour and the magnificence of Union Station - while Pittsburgh continues to transform and reinvent itself as the decades pass. So much has changed yet so much of what Pittsburgh once was still lingers in today's landscape. See for yourself in these historic photos of Pittsburgh then and now:
1. Union Station - 1901
This beautiful building has been a landmark in Pittsburgh for over a century.

2. Carnegie Institute of Technology - 1901
Carnegie Mellon University - Now
This university has expanded immensely since it was established and bears a new name now. But it's still an incredibly well-respected university.
3. Forbes Field - 1909
PNC Park - Now
Baseball is still at the heart of this park, but it's been greatly expanded to accommodate bigger crowds and a more elaborate sports culture.
4. The Point - 1910

This view really illustrates how much has changed in the city of Pittsburgh. The skyline has evolved immensely with lots of development in the last century.

The South Side still retains some of its historic character with lots of buildings and row houses dating back to the early 1900s.

Though the bare bones of the city are similar, there are many more skyscrapers now than there were in 1963.

Downtown Pittsburgh strikes a good balance between paying homage to its past, and maintaining historic buildings, while also developing into a new and vibrant city.

9. Three Rivers Stadium - 1980s

Just like Forbes Field, this was developed into a larger stadium to accommodate bigger crowds and more events.
