It's always fun to take a trip back in time, whether it be in a real-life time machine or just to a 50s themed diner. You can feel nostalgic for the past, take a short vacation from your every day life, and maybe even learn something interesting about local history. Here are some awesome retro destinations in the state of Pennsylvania.
1. Shankweiler's Drive In Theatre, Orefield
Shankweiler's is America's oldest drive-in movie theater, and as such it's a great place to really get into a retro vibe. Bonus points if you pull up in a cherry red Impala '64.
2. Weona Park Carousel, Pen Argyl
The historic carousel has 44 animals that were created and painted in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it now is on the National Register of Historic Places. Take a spin back in time.
3. Adams & Bright Pharmacy and Soda, Hamburg
Some of the most vivid nostalgic memories we have are of old timey soda fountains and pharmacies. Feel like you're in a Norman Rockwell painting at Adams & Bright Pharmacy and Soda.
4. Wolfe's Diner, Dillsburg
Wolfe's has been around since the 1950's and it hasn't changed much since first opening... And unlike the atmosphere, their food is super fresh.
5. Wanamaker's Organ, Philadelphia
Before it was Macy's, it was Wanamaker's, one of the first department stores in the country. Today you can still go enjoy the gorgeous pipe organ that is the largest operating pipe organ in the world and a symbol of Philadelphia's rich history.
6. Yuengling Brewery, Pottsville
Yuengling is the oldest brewery in the country and thus a great destination for getting into the retro spirit. Learn about how our wonderful state contributed one of the most important things to our nation's history... Beer!
7. Arsenal Lanes, Pittsburgh
Go down to the bowling alley and knock some pins over, 1950's style. Arsenal Lanes is not only vintage, but they have unbeatable prices.
