Philadelphia gets a bad reputation sometimes. Sure, we celebrate our sports victories in an intense way, and we aren't exactly the kindest people in the world, but that's no reason to write us off! In fact, those are some of the reasons that everyone should really love Philly - we're just a little misunderstood. Here are a few more reasons to appreciate the City of Brotherly Love:
1. We gave the world Cheesesteaks.
Cheesesteaks were invented on Passyunk Ave and perfected everywhere else in the city. You can't get a good one outside of Philly.
2. Hoagies, too.
Hog Island / Navy Yard workers popularized this Italian sandwich, and for that, the world should be forever grateful.
3. Okay, how about food in general?
The best sandwiches in America at Reading Terminal Market, some of the country's finest Italian food at Vetri, and the most fun restaurants in the world courtesy of Jose Garces... you can't beat that!
4. We have the most incredible neighborhoods.
From our Italian rowhomes and markets in South Philly to the hipster paradise that is the Piazza in Northern Liberties, Philly neighborhoods bring so much to the city. No two blocks are the same!
5. Our architecture is absolutely stunning.
It's impossible not to gawk at the Masonic Temple, Art Museum, or City Hall. These are just a few of Philly's countless impressive landmarks.
6. Nobody loves their city like Philly loves Philly.
Philadelphians have incredible pride - we really, really love Philly. If you let us show you why, you'll fall in love with this city, too.
7. You can count on us to be honest - brutally honest.
All it takes is a walk down any street with signs outside of the bars. We'll tell you what we like and what we hate - you never have to worry about a Philadelphian lying to you.
8. We can party with the best of them.
With festivals like Made in America, post-game celebrations at Xfinity Live, and good times to be had at any corner bar, a night out in Philly is certainly unforgettable.
9. We're sickeningly loyal.
The Eagles finally made it happen... after 52 years. The Sixers? Well, we still trust the process; we just wish the plan involved a little more winning. Even when our win-loss record makes us want to cry, we'll still show up to the games and cheer nonetheless.
10. There's so much green space, you'll never feel overwhelmed.
If you're feeling a little too claustrophobic, head to Fairmount Park, which is one of the largest urban parks in the country.
11. Philadelphia's history is still a part of everyday life.
Nowhere else in the country (except maybe Boston) has history on display as well as Philadelphia. We still drive down cobblestone streets, our restaurants were formerly banks, we walk past the Liberty Bell almost daily, and one of our top commuting spots is right in the middle of the largest masonry building in the world.
