Okay, Pittsburghers! Let's talk about what makes living in Pittsburgh so amazing. We all have our own reasons for living here - whether we grew up here or something like a new job or college drew us here - but we can all probably agree that there are plenty of reasons we still live in Pittsburgh. Here are five reasons everyone should live in Pittsburgh and five more reasons why you shouldn't. See if you agree.
1. You’ll enjoy the best meals of your life.
Pittsburghers know good food, and you’ll find it everywhere. In quaint mom and pop restaurants. Brand named eateries. And, from the food trucks that are so popular in the Burgh. Your biggest challenge will be answering that age-old question: Where are we going to eat tonight?
2. You’ll always find something to do.
Bored in the Burgh? Impossible, unless, of course, you want to be bored. You’ll find so much to do – from museums and amusement parks to shops and theaters. And, that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
3. We’ve got a language all of our own.
Pittsburghers are one-of-a-kind, part of what makes Pittsburgh the perfect city in which to live. And, part of what makes us so unique is Pittsburghese. Admittedly, you might have difficulty understanding some of what we say, at first. But, before you know it you’ll be calling those annoying people jagoffs, too.
4. Pittsburgh is a big city with a small town feel.
Don’t expect a big city like New York or Los Angeles. But, Pittsburgh is a decent-sized city that offers everything the really big cities have – from culture to diversity. Still, Pittsburgh’s been able to maintain that small town feel, where people will smile and say hi when they see you.
5. Pittsburghers are the BEST.
Sure, people around the U.S. are great. But, there’s just something special about Pittsburghers. Pittsburghers are always ready with a helping hand and will rally around those who need us. Sit down on a mall bench or wait at the bus stop, and that stranger next to you? Before you know it, you’ll likely be deep in conversation and have made a new friend.
And, here are five reasons why you shouldn't live in Pittsburgh:
1. You’ll never want to leave.
If you’re okay with totally falling head-over-heels in love with Pittsburgh, the people, the food, and the pure natural beauty, by all means you should definitely live here. Just be forewarned that you’re never going to want to leave – except for vacations, of course – the city you now call home.
2. You’ll constantly compare every other place you go to Pittsburgh.
Really, do you want to spend the rest of your life comparing other cities and towns to Pittsburgh? That’s just what will happen if you decide to live somewhere else – even if only for a brief time. And, how fair is to compare other places to Pittsburgh, knowing that no other town or city can really compare to our hometown?
3. You’ll only know what it means to win.
Sure, we all have to lose sometimes. Like when we play an impromptu game of hoops, right? But, when you live in Pittsburgh, you’re joining the City of Champions. Be sure you’re okay with winning all the time before you settle down here.
4. You’ll be really spoiled.
Pittsburgh spoils us. After all, we always have something to do and somewhere to go. We really have to try to be bored. And, the scenery? Pittsburgh’s skyline just might be the most beautiful anywhere in the U.S.
5. You’ll have to make some pretty hard decisions.
Will you order a pizza from Mineo’s or Aiello’s? Should you really stop at Oakmont Bakery on the way home from work? Go to the Pirates game or watch the Pens on TV? Should you spend a hot summer day at Sand Castle, Kennywood, or Idlewild? So many choices lead to some pretty challenging decisions.
