Portland has many stereotypes and an enormous reputation, usually revolving around the amount of rain we get each year or being unnecessarily obsessed with a good IPA. We usually live up to these things, but will happily own up to it. We love the things that make the city what it is because when it's good, it's good. Here's a list of things that the people of Portland love the most:
1. Biking
Whether it's with purpose or completely aimless, you'll usually find us riding a bike down our extremely bike-friendly streets.
2. Beer
Yes, it's true, we have more breweries per capita than anywhere else in the country and we are proud to say it.
3. Coffee
There's nothing better than the smell of freshly roasted coffee in the morning to a native Portlander, and we make sure that it's available all over the city.
4. Food
We love our food. If you talk to anyone who lives in Portland or is just visiting, they'll tell you that it's nearly impossible to find a bad restaurant.
5. Food Carts
Speaking of food, we love it even more when it comes out of a cart. We've coined our city as Cortlandia.
6. Being polite
We like saying hello to people walking down the street and we like to say thank you to the bus drivers when we get off. We enjoy being nice; it's just our thing.
7. Hiking
We will find any excuse to explore the beautiful nature that Oregon provides, which makes hiking one of our favorite activities. You have to hike Forest Park, which is a trail so close to downtown Portland that it's hard to believe exists.
8. Donuts
Of course you've heard of Voodoo Donuts. Yes, there's usually a line around the block but they're really that good. Two donut spots you probably haven't heard of but wish you had: Blue Star and Pip's. You have to check it out for yourself!
9. The Blazers
Everywhere you go you'll see black and red and hear "RIP city," because we truly and wholeheartedly support our city's biggest sports team.
10. The Timbers
You'll never see more passion than when you're at a Timbers game, where sometimes it gets wet and messy but just that much more suspenseful.
11. The rain
We might say we hate it, but deep down we all know that isn't true. As most bask in the sun, we enjoy basking in Portland's refreshing mist.
12. Local food
There are so many restaurants and grocery stores in Portland that make it a point to support local purveyors by selling their goods. New Seasons and local farmers markets are just a couple of the many places.
