In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Americans on the mainland were obsessed with the idea of traveling to tropical paradises. Tiki-themed restaurants, bars, and lounges were popular all over the country, but most closed down a decade or two later. There's still an amazing, retro tiki lounge here in Oregon, and you're going to want to pay it a visit. Check out The Alibi Tiki Lounge:
The Alibi Tiki Lounge opened in 1947 and was a popular spot for an evening of dinner and dancing.
You'll find The Alibi at 4024 N. Interstate Ave., Portland, OR 97227.
The lounge has changed a bit to fit the times, which is how it's stayed open for so many decades, but the decor hasn't changed much at all.
You'll feel like you've stepped right back into the 1960s the moment you walk in the door. From the hula girls mural...
...to the funky lights hanging from the wall, and the bamboo decor, this is definitely a tiki lounge-lovers dream.
One of the things The Alibi has added to modernize things a bit is karaoke, and it's the perfect venue — it's a tropical karaoke paradise.
With thousands of songs available, you're certain to find a few that you feel like tackling. Grab an Alibi Mai Tai for some liquid courage, first.
