Oregon really does have it all: waterfalls, caves, beaches, canyons, temperate rainforests, and also some of the most glorious old-growth forests in the country. In fact, the redwood forests for which California is well-known actually extend into Oregon! You’ll find old-growth redwoods in the Rogue River-Siskiyou Forest near Brookings, and one of the best trails to see them is the Oregon Redwoods Trail. You'll hike among the world's grandest giants on the Oregon Redwoods Trail, and it's an experience you must add to your bucket list.
The redwood forests of California are wondrous, but did you know that they actually extend into Oregon?
The Oregon Redwoods Trail is located near the Oregon/California border, in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. You'll find it 11 miles south of Brookings.
It's a well-marked, 1.7-mile trail that's rated as an easy hike. The first half mile is paved and not difficult to navigate; the rest of the trail becomes a bit more steep and rugged.
This hike is absolutely worth conquering any difficult terrain, however. The trail itself feels like something out of a fairy tale fantasy, with its verdant foliage and towering forest giants.
Within this resplendent region in southern Oregon, you'll find redwoods as tall as 300 feet, and as old as 800 years.
It's nearly impossible to get a sense of just how giant these trees truly are, unless you're standing next to them.
Hiking among these wise and gentle giants is an utterly grounding and life-affirming experience.
Bring your pup along to share the experience with you! Unlike the redwood forests of California, this is a dog-friendly hike.
This piece of the redwood forest is also generally quiet and quite peaceful. You'll understand what John Muir meant when he said, "The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness."
This is the way. Venture along the Oregon Redwoods Trail, and you'll be forever changed.
