There's not a lot of places you go in the country and tour a real WWII submarine with battle scars. Fortunately, we have one in our own backyard -The USS Batfish - a legendary WWII submarine located at the Muskogee War Memorial Museum. You can not only tour the sub, but you can even spend the night on it. Keep reading to get all the details.
After serving the country for 26 years, the USS Batfish retired and now sits in Muskogee at the Muskogee War Memorial Park at 3500 Batfish Road.
This historical submarine is a genuine WWII sub that is open for tours. During World War II, the United States lost 52 submarines, luckily the USS Batfish wasn't one of them.
During its tenure in battle, the USS Batfish sank three enemy submarines and eleven other enemy vessels. After retiring, it became an Okie in Muskogee.
The museum is dedicated to the preservation of of American Military History and is home to the only submarine in Oklahoma.
One of the coolest experiences it offers is overnight stays all throughout the year. Imagine getting to stay the night in the same quarters that the sailors stayed in during WWII.
There's also over 4,000 artifacts dedicated to the USS Batfish, military history, and Muskogee history at the museum.
