Oklahoma has become mostly known for its tornadoes and labeled by outsiders as just a fly-over state, however there is so much more to the Sooner State. We play a vital role in agriculture, manufacturing and oil and gas. We may not be as glamorous as other states - with beaches and palm trees - but we know our role and we appreciate the many great attributes of our state. We love our low cost of living, easy commutes, friendly towns and cities full of top-notch arts and entertainment districts. In case you're still not convinced, here are 14 reasons Oklahoma is the most underrated state in the country:
1. We are the 5th largest source of beef in the country.
What would we do without our steaks?
2. And the 4th largest supplier of wheat in the country.
Anybody like bread, muffins, cakes, biscuits or crackers? Well, you can thank Oklahoma for their massive contribution of wheat.
3. We are a leading producer of oil and natural gas.
Like driving your car? Yep, another, "Thank you Oklahoma moment!"
4. We have lots of trendy places to explore.
From museums to Bricktown to the Brady Arts District, Oklahoma is evolving at a rapid pace.
5. We are centrally located.
We can get to so many destinations in the country within a day's drive.
6. We don't have to pay an arm and a leg to own a home.
Our state is one of the most economical states to live in. We have affordable housing and low prices on goods and services.
7. We have one of the most diverse topographies of any state in the nation.
With 10 ecoregions, there is so much beauty to explore.
8. We have the kindest people...EVER!
Oklahomans are known as being the kindest and down to earth people.
9. We have room to breathe.
We love our wide open spaces.
10. We have NBA superstars.
Westbrook and Durant are some of the best NBA players in the league right now.
11. And the best college football team (and fans).
The University of Oklahoma has been listed as one of the top college football programs in the country multiple times.
12. We have the best (and most) man-made lakes in the country.
With over 2,000 lakes in Oklahoma, finding a peaceful spot on the lake is always close by anywhere you are in the state.
