North Dakota is one of those states that, admittedly, never sees the love and attention that I - that we - know it deserves. After all, it's an amazing place to live, visit, and explore, and as it turns out, it's a cornucopia of interesting trivia that's fun to throw around at parties. If anyone ever asks, you might want to refer back to this article; I've found nine fun facts about North Dakota that you might not have heard before. Without further ado, did you know:
They don't exactly look like your garden-variety rose, but they're beautiful nevertheless - and they smell amazing!
Kansas might be the Sunflower State, but North Dakota is THE sunflower state, if you catch my drift. The epicness of our North Dakotan sunflower fields is unmatched.
Note that this is the tallest structure, not to be confused with the tallest building. It's a weird hill to die on, but I'll die on it. Don't @ me.
...and this is far from the only quirky record that NoDak holds. The largest hamburger in the world was eaten in Rutland, North Dakota, in 1982.
I feel like that kinda gives places like IHOP a run for their money. Hey, IHOP, you ever serve 34,000 pancakes during one breakfast shift all in the same restaurant? Pff. Didn't think so.
Legend has it that seeing her is quite moo-ving, and folks feel like they hoof to take lots of photos to prove they were there... and they saw her.
The Peace Garden State is not to be underestimated, especially in the farming department. Where city folks see "flyover" land, we see opportunity - and it shows.
For some reason, one of the most peaceful places in the world for me is directly beneath a wind turbine in an open field, staring at the heavens and appreciating the beauty of life. Turns out, North Dakota's a great place for doing exactly that.
And best of all, summer here is never TOO hot - it's usually just right. Our four seasons are a delight!
