Life in North Dakota has some perks that simply aren't found in other places. We don't want to brag or anything, but the Peace Garden State is pretty darn nice. If you don't live here, you're missing out on these amazing privileges that North Dakotans have that others in the United States simply don't:
1. The prairie sunsets and sunrises.
Dusk and dawn on the wide open prairie are truly something to behold. With so much sky to take in, when the sun is low on the horizon, it turns into a masterpiece of color. These never seem to get old no matter how many you've seen - and other states just don't have it quite as nice.
2. The best college sports teams.
Whether it's seeing the NDSU Bison football team win another championship or watching the UND Fighting Hawks kick some butt on the ice, we get the fine privilege of watching it happen over other states quite often.
3. The wide open spaces.
Forget being in a cramped place where you can rarely ever see the unbroken horizon and being so sandwiched together or stacked high that you feel claustrophobic. North Dakota is huge in size and low in population, so there is tons of wide open space anyone could appreciate.
4. Being the country's breadbasket.
North Dakota is the top producer in so many different crops and foods that we've become known as the breadbasket of America. We, of course, get to partake in having farm fresh food ourselves, and get the privilege of providing it to the rest of the country as well.
5. The caramel rolls.
North Dakota caramel rolls are unbeatable. Other states have little cinnamon rolls and they don't even compare. The huge, fluffy, ooey and gooey caramel rolls of the Peace Garden State are just the best - end of story.
6. Having the most charming small towns.
The North Dakota small town life is still perfectly in tact. If you want to visit or live in a place as pure as a small town with a tight knit community, lovely local sights, and the quiet and peacefulness of one, you still can here. Our small towns are hard to beat!
7. Wishek sausage.
No other state has a grocery store with sausage as famous as Wishek sausage. People will come from all over the country to get this stuff, and only North Dakota has the privilege of saying it is the home of it. If you haven't tried this stuff yet you need to do yourself a favor and check it out.
8. Diverse, unique landscapes.
North Dakota has a surprising amount of diverse landscapes that other states simply don't have. Many out-of-staters think there is only flat fields here, but we know they're wrong. We have the badlands in the west, turning into rolling hills the further east you go, criss-crossed with forested river valleys across the state. In the east you have the Red River Valley with huge, expansive plains and to the south, the unique prairie pothole region.
9. Experiencing all four beautiful seasons.
It's weird to think that other states in the U.S. only get one or two seasons. Heat all year round might sound nice to some, but being able to see the transitions of the earth through the seasons is a privilege we North Dakotans get to enjoy. The green growth of spring, the warmth of summer and the crops growing high, the beautiful colors of fall and the harvest, and of course snowy, chilly winters where our holiday seasons are white.
10. Knowing you'll always be welcomed back.
No matter if you grew up here and left for some far off place when you became old enough, you'll be welcome back in North Dakota any time. It is such a pleasant place where neighbors help neighbors and communities are strong - and we love it.
