When it comes to living on the East Coast, New York is a state where you can find a ton of transplants that have migrated here from all across the country. With so many amazing reasons why our state is so special, it's not hard to understand why so many people end up moving here at one point or another! 1. New York is a diverse place and is basically made up of ten different states all jam packed into one.

There are so many different regions that make up New York, it's often feels like residents from outside of our own area are like creatures from a different planet. From up in the Adirondacks to out on Long Island, to down in the Catskills and over in the Finger Lakes, there are so many beautiful regions that have their own unique qualities. But this is a good thing! Instead of spending money on traveling to far away destinations, you can enjoy memorable staycations as you explore outside of your new hometown and enter a different world all while staying in the same state.

2. Which means that no two New Yorkers are alike.

Like I said, our regions can feel quite different from one another depending on which areas you're comparing. This means that residents from opposite ends of New York tend to be quite different from one another.

3. Our small towns are our greatest feature, showing off New York's charm in all the right ways.

New York may be one of the most famous cities in the world, but anyone who actually lives in New York knows that it's our small towns that are the true heart of our state. Filled with friendly faces, small town shops and restaurants and more, ditch living in the pricy city and settle down in one of our remote towns.

4. The Empire State is every adventurer's true-life utopia, with so many outdoor attractions you'll never run out of places to explore.

With hundreds of parks inside New York as well as endless mountains, hiking trails and scenic areas, you'll love attempting to cross every natural wonder and attraction off of your state bucket list. Keeping yourself busy with outdoor activities is an easy task here, so if you love spending time outside you'll absolutely love it here.

5. Our residents are a prideful bunch, and we enjoying displaying that through the act of being avid fans for our sports teams.

From college basketball to professional football, we'll deal with the worst of weather conditions as long as it means we get to cheer on our favorite teams! Sitting through frigid tailgating parties and piling on all of the New York sports apparel that we can find in our closets, we'll do whatever it takes to display our love for our teams.

6. It's a myth that once you move to New York you'll gain the knowledge of finding out where Upstate New York really is. This is false.

As time goes by, the age old argument of discussing where Upstate New York is continues to go unanswered. Some of our residents would say Upstate is anywhere about Westchester County, while others might claim Upstate only exists north of Albany.

7. Something quick and easy to learn? Ithaca is gorges.

New York's city of waterfalls, you'll want to find out that Ithaca is gorges before moving to our state and finding yourself out of the loop. Plastered on shirts, stickers and other items, the city's catch phrase references the area's mass amount of natural wonders - specifically gorges. It's something we're quite proud of!

8. You'll quickly obtain a love-hate relationship with all of New York's four seasons.

While we certainly appreciate luxuries like having snow during the holidays, beautiful fall foliage, sunny spring days and summer's heat, it can be hard to experience a lifetime of all four seasons.

9. And while you may long for summer all year, you'll begin to curse out its existence once the season actually arrives.

As much as we love summer, we often view this season like a bad relationship that we can't shake. Only remembering the good times and forgetting the obvious cons until they reappear in our lives. We love this short-lived season for all of the obvious reasons, but sometimes things can get too uncomfortably hot in New York, with quite a bit of humidity, pesky bugs and intense summer rain storms in store for us annually.

10. Your first reaction may be to turn your head away from our famous Garbage Plate, but don't.

Who knew that a two word menu item title could turn you off so quickly? While you may not initially love the thought of eating a "garbage plate", your taste buds won't be able to resist the delicious goodness that you're feeding yourself. The most prime example of why you should never be too quick to judge a book by its cover.

11. Speaking of food, you'll never be able to look at our state's wings, pizza and bagels the same again.

The majority of us like to consider our residents to be a humble bunch. But when it comes to dining on classic dishes like wings, pizza and bagels? Well, you're surely bound to become a food snob after tasting how New York makes these items.

12. Whenever you hear one of us say "the city", we're referencing the good old Big Apple.

What happens when the biggest, most famous city in your state also shares the same name as your state? Well, you end up with a designated area full of residents who do nothing but call the Big Apple, "the city".

13. And prepare yourself, moving here means that you every time you tell someone that you're from New York, they're going to assume that you mean New York City.

As different as all of our regions are, the one thing that we all have in common is that every single time we tell an outsider that we're from New York, they all assume we meant the Big Apple.

14. Secluded as it may be, Long Island is worth the drive.

Sometimes it can feel like Long Island isn't even a part of New York. But once you take the time to actually road trip it out to this area of our state? You won't regret it! Surrounded by the ocean, beautiful beaches and lively activities during the summer, this stunning stretch of New York isn't to be underestimated.

15. Full of fascinating history, pieces of New York's past can be found hiding in plain sight all over our state.

If you move to New York and find yourself wanting to learn about many of the things all of us were raised to learn in school, you can dig into New York's past with intriguing pieces of well-preserved history that remain open to the public. From historic homes and castle to museums, it's hard not to drive through our state without seeing several historic markers along the road.

16. Lastly, once you move to New York? You'll never want to leave.

Once you settle in and actually call New York home you'll never want to move again. This state is like a paradise tucked in the upper right hand corner of our country!
