Have you ever encountered anything that completely defied explanation? Well, there's an incredibly unique New Mexican sound that seemingly has no explanation despite many people over the years trying to find out its source. There are theories, of course, but none have been proven without a shadow of a doubt. Have you ever heard of the Taos Hum? Well, this may very well be the one sound you can truly associate with the Land of Enchantment.
New Mexico is certainly no stranger to strange phenomena. Between haunted places and alleged UFO sightings, the state has some fascinating stories to tell!
One strange phenomena occurred in the town of Taos. Known mainly for its skiing and the Taos Pueblo, which has been inhabited for over 1,000 years, it's a popular place for tourists.
However, in the early 90s, a certain percentage of Taos residents began hearing this low-pitched hum. As it was at such a low frequency, only around 2 percent of the town's population, or "hearers" as they were called, could hear it.
Of course, some people were annoyed while others were just perplexed, and searched for the source. Was it coming from the ground or the sky? Was it the military? How about a local factory? Was the source man-made or natural?
Whatever the answer, the Taos Hum drove several residents out of town over the years.
And despite investigations into its origins, including investigations by revered scientists, the cause remains unknown to this day.
