Have you broken any laws lately? Most people’s instinctive response is a "no," but not so fast. New Mexico has some bizarre laws on the books and you could be violating them without even realizing it. We've done some research and found 10 illegal things in New Mexico. 1. Men can go naked as long as their genitals are covered.
This is certainly one of the strangest weird laws in New Mexico.
2. It’s fine for women to go topless providing their nipples aren’t visible.
And the craziness just keeps on coming ...
3. In Carrizozo, women are banned from being unshaven in public.
Does that extend to eyebrows?
4. State officials mandated that 400 sexually explicit words be removed from “Romeo and Juliet.”
Because everyone knows that Shakespeare is the leading cause of promiscuity in teens.
5. However, in Carlsbad ...
... it’s totally cool for a couple to have sex in a parked vehicle during their lunch break, providing there are coverings on the car or van windows to prevent others from seeing inside.
6. In Deming, you can be arrested for public spitting.
This includes sidewalks and also the steps and floors of public buildings like offices, churches, and schools. Apparently, spitballs are only a prosecutable offense if they land directly on the floor.
7. Deming also has some rules relating to Mountain View Cemetery.
It’s illegal to ride a bicycle there … or to hunt. Doesn't it make you wonder what incident resulted in this weird law in New Mexico?
8. It’s a petty misdemeanor to improperly use official anthems.
Don’t even think about creating a musical montage featuring the national anthem and "O Fair New Mexico." The law’s phrasing is confusing, but it sounds like these songs must be completed in full and performed separately.
9. It is against the law for women to pump their own gas or change a flat tire.
Apparently, men are expected to offer to do it for them. It's probably safe to say that this is one bizarre law that many New Mexican women have broken.
10. “Idiots” are not allowed to vote. This weird law in New Mexico is particularly relevant in an election year.
