Is it pork roll, or Taylor Ham? Do you always know where your closest Wawa is? It's about time we admit how hard it is to leave the Garden State. Here are a few funny New Jersey stereotypes regarding how to tell you've spent too much time in our beautiful state.
1. Let's just say it right away - you'll never enjoy pizza anywhere else
Or bagels, for that matter. We've all been traumatized by out-of-state pizza enough times to have learned our lesson for good.
2. You have no idea how to pump gas - or, if you do, it totally takes you a second to remember what to do
The whole country should adopt New Jersey's unofficial slogan: "20 regular cash".
3. You've got a Springsteen story
Even if you've never met the man himself, you've got some sort of story ready to bring up any time the topic of conversation shifts to the Boss. Did your ex-boyfriend's neighbor teach his kids to ride horses? Was your best friend's uncle just jogging along the boardwalk, and suddenly Bruce appeared and handed off some tickets? Of course, your co-worker's grandpa played keys on stage with Springsteen before the E-Street Band got together. We all have Bruce stories, it's unavoidable.
4. If it's more than 20 minutes away, you're going to complain
And if it's more than an hour away, you've got to plan your whole day around the trip. Friends in other states might tell you that they have to drive 40 minutes into town to go grocery shopping. Sound familiar?
5. You've picked a side in the pork roll / Taylor Ham debate, even if you don't eat it
Pork roll.
6. You're fiercly loyal to your local hoagie or sub shop
Does anyone else agree that Christopher's Deli in Mt. Holly is the best in the state...? Sound off.
7. You're really obsessed with a city that's not even in New Jersey
Whether it be New York or Philadelphia, these out-of-state cities are a big part of your identity.
8. You expect a convenience store on every corner
Don't get too comfortable running your gas tank down to E if you're heading through some other states! Here in Jersey, we're used to a gas station or snack stop on every block.
