Little Silver is one of those beautiful beach towns that feels like it's frozen in time. A township of under 7,000 people, with a stop on the New Jersey Coast Line, it's a great place to visit during the summer if you're looking for a more laid-back visit to the shore. It's also home to a fascinating site rich in history - because the oldest historic building in Little Silver, NJ dates back to 1667! Over three centuries ago, brothers Joseph and Peter Parker established what would become known as the Parker Homestead in one of the earliest English-speaking settlements in the area. Amazingly, it stayed in their family for over three centuries until the last descendant of the original settlers passed away and deeded it to the town - making it a unique historical site that anyone who visits Little Silver can see for themselves.
Located on the grounds of a beautiful historical park, the Parker Homestead is a must-visit spot in Little Silver.
The main house here was built in 1720, half a century before the founding of the United States, but you can find remnants of the earlier 1667 structures.
The facility is generally closed to visitors to protect the interior, but taking photos of the exterior is always allowed.
Tours of the interior are limited due to the town wanting to protect the integrity of the structure, but can be arranged with advanced notice.
As you tour the outside, you can also see some unique vintage farm equipment on the grounds.
Events are regularly held on the grounds of the Parker Homestead, which offer a unique way to get an inside look into the building's history.
The Parker Homestead Foundation's work is ongoing, and donations help to keep this unique area open to the public.
