New Jersey is such a great place to grow up! Here are a few things that young Garden State residents are always wondering about when they're hanging out in their home state.
1. I can't wait for summer to be over.
While this might seem like an outrageous statement at face value, the truth is those of us who love the Jersey Shore love it the most during the "local summer" season, after Labor Day. The water is warmer, the beaches are empty and free, and it's so much quieter.
2. Let's go find the Jersey Devil!
There are so many rumors that fly around about the best place to track down this folklore legend. Ong's Hat, Leed's Point, and the Mount of Mount Holly are all good places to start your search. Of course, in the Pinelands, any woodsy backyard is a suspicious territory, too...
3. What IS scrapple?
We quickly learn to not ask this one again.
4. Carnival season is the best.
All summer long, church carnivals and county fairs bring games and excitement to our small towns. Whether you love the Zipper thrill ride, prefer to earn bragging rights in the skillet toss, or just like to snack on all the fair food, it's hard to beat a small town carnival in the Garden State.
5. New Jersey's landscape is truly amazing -- we must be the most underrated state.
We've got it all! Mountains, valleys, beaches, farmland, and cities! While everyone kind of gives us a look when we say we're from Jersey, we know that they're missing out.
What are your favorite memories from your New Jersey childhood? We'd love to hear about it in the comments below, so share your experiences so we can all bond over our Jersey roots.
