1. They make the best bagels you'll ever have.

New Jersey bagel shops are the best in the country. Whether you want a fresh-baked bagel with gourmet cream cheese, or you would prefer a big breakfast sandwich featuring pork roll or scrapple, you're really in for a treat.

2. They know the hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurants.

Italian-American cuisine has been perfected by New Jersey's chefs and restauranteurs. Head into any small town and the residents will quickly point you to the best hole-in-the-wall trattoria around.

3. They actually mean it when they’re kind.

New Jerseyans are genuinely kind - even if they're not always nice about it. They'll help you change a tire, but they might also chastise you for driving through a construction site and picking up a nail that caused the flat.

4. They're fiercely loyal... to our sports teams.

New Jerseyans tend to be born into their sports team loyalty. Without many major teams in the state itself (sorry, Devils), most people choose to dedicate their time to following Philadelphia or New York teams. You can tell how loyal New Jerseyans are by how many Mets fans in Bergen County still hang on to their hopes after all these years, and by how absolutely wild the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl weekend was.

5. New Jerseyans will ALWAYS make you a good meal.

You'll always feel welcome in a New Jersey home, and you'll always end up leaving with a full belly.

6. They know the back roads and ways to avoid traffic.

While all of the tourists and travelers are stuck taking the Parkway and Expressway to get down the shore, locals have put together a mental map of all the back roads to get around without sitting in traffic for hours.

7. They can go from City to Sticks in a flash.

There are many places in New Jersey where you can see Philadelphia or New York from a state or county park - and that's a bit of a metaphor for how versatile New Jerseyans are. They can go mudding in the Pines and then out for cocktails in the city on the same day and fit right in.

8. They probably "know a guy".
