Have you ever asked, "what are people from Nebraska like?" Well, people from Nebraska are known to be tough and incredibly resilient; we're not complainers, but we won't just roll over and let things happen to us, either. Our collective superpower is the result of some pretty unique conditions that you'll only find right here in Nebraska!
1. We have pioneer spirit.
This land was once wild, untamed, and thought to be utterly useless. Generations who came before us established Nebraska as a central part of America's agricultural industry, and that can-do spirit has been carried down all this time.
2. We don't shy away from hard work.
During WWII, when resources and manpower were in short supply, Nebraskans pitched and made significant contributions. Workers at the Martin Bomber Plant in Bellevue built the Enola Gay and many other aircraft pivotal in the war effort. There's really never been a time when we backed away from a challenge or turned down someone in need.
3. If we aren't farm folks ourselves, we descended from farm folks.
Even those of us who live in cities and work in offices can trace our families back to farms (provided the family has been in Nebraska for at least a few generations). Farmers have to be strong, resourceful, and resilient - and our parents and grandparents passed those qualities on to us.
4. We live with extreme weather and we make the best of it.
From 110-degree summers to -20 degree winters, we see a lot of inhospitable weather, but that never seems to stop our fun. We hydrate in the summer, bundle up in the winter, and go have as much fun as possible because life is just too short to let a little thing like weather keep us down.
5. We'll totally drive through snow that's higher than our cars.
Winter sticks around for such a long time that we just have to deal with commuting in the ridiculously deep snow. If there's a particularly bad storm, we may get a day to dig ourselves out...but then it's right back to business as usual.
6. Most of us have unreasonably long commutes.
Many Nebraskans live on family farms or just enjoy the quiet, rural life...but there are few jobs to be found out in the country. So plenty of us deal with commutes that are an hour or more each way, every day. That takes some toughness right there.
7. Many of us have served in the military.
We've got some pretty strong values here, one of them being unfailing patriotism. Our young men and women volunteer for military service to serve their country, enrich their lives, and earn life experience.
8. We may get knocked down from time to time, but we always get up and build back better.
We've seen our share of disasters and tragedies - from tornadoes to flooding to fires - and we always band together to help those who need it and to repair the damage. Our towns can be washed, blown, or burned away, but our spirit is never shaken.

9. It's all about community.
Right after family, our community is our strongest support system. We rely on those around us to be there when we need them - but more importantly, we're there for them every time.
Of course, there are plenty of other reasons we're in a state of unbreakable souls. What are your thoughts, Nebraska? Let us know in the comments. Need some ideas about how to explore this wonderful state? Check out our article with several ideas for awesome Nebraska road trips!
