Nashville has its fair share of history as well as its fair share of restaurants, but there's one spot that opened recently in downtown Nashville that is a perfect combination of the two. That restaurant is Woolworth on 5th, a spot that was once home to a lunch counter that found itself at the center of the Civil Rights movement in Nashville. And while it's not the same restaurant as it once was, the new restaurant is a wonderful tribute to the brave men and women that help change the country nearly 60 years ago.
Woolworth on 5th is one of downtown Nashville's hottest restaurants, but it's not just the food that draws folks here. This restaurant also has some incredible history.
During the Civil Rights Movement, the space was home to a lunch counter called Woolworth, and it was the site of some of the historic sit-ins that happened in downtown Nashville.
The building is now registered as a historic site, making this restaurant one of the most historically significant in the state, let alone the city.
The entire restaurant has been restored to be as true to the original lunch counter as possible. Even the original terrazzo floors have been refurbished to bring them back to their historic beauty.
Today, you can order all kinds of classic American food at Woolworth on 5th. They're particularly popular during their brunch hours on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Since it's right downtown, Woolworth is a great place to meet up with friends or co-workers, whether it's during lunch, dinner, or their famous happy hour.
So what are you waiting for? Head downtown to Woolworth on 5th and experience the history and incredible food that this beautiful restaurant has to offer. Address: 221 5th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37219
