We’ve all likely had those quiet moments when we’ve sat outside, stared at the starry sky, and just marveled at the vastness above us. Perhaps we’ve caught sight of a shooting star, outlined a constellation, or wondered if there’s life beyond Earth. It’s a question that everyday Americans and creatives – writers, artists, and filmmakers – have pondered for years. Is there life on other planets? Are those UFOs so many have reported seeing hovering above real? Well, that’s a question you’ll likely ask when you learn more about this UFO sighting in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
The story of the UFO sighting in Cape Girardeau whisks us back to the spring of 1941, just months before the United States entered World War II and six years before the famous Roswell incident.
One evening in April, so the tale goes, Reverend William G. Huffman was summoned to a field near Cape Girardeau, so he could pray for those lives lost in a plane crash.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary that spring night when Huffman made his way to the field, but that would all change when he first saw the “plane.”
As the story goes, it wasn’t a typical plane of the era. Rather, Huffman later described seeing what we today know as a flying saucer. The silver UFO had broken apart, and its three passengers lay on the ground.
Two of the individuals had already passed away, but the third still struggled to breathe, dying in front of the reverend, who described the foreign beings as standing around four feet and looking like the typical alien we’ve seen renderings of.
The evidence was purportedly confiscated by the United States military, and witnesses were essentially told to forget what they saw.
Since no evidence is said to remain and there’s only one eyewitness account, some question the veracity of the claims while others believe that a UFO crashed in a field outside of Cape Girardeau, Missouri that spring evening so many years ago.
