With the diversity of back drops including mountains, plains, rivers and lakes, city skylines and more, it makes perfect sense for a film maker to choose Missouri to film in. Here are a few of the movies that were filmed at least partially in this state.
1. Escape From New York (1981)
Filmed mostly in St. Louis, starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine and Donald Pleasance, and directed by John Carpenter.
2. Gone Girl (2014)
The film was directed by David Fincher and starred Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. It was mostly filmed here in Missouri in Cape Girardeau.
3. National Lampoon's Vacation
Although mostly filmed in California, there were some external scene shots done in St. Louis. The film starred Chevy Chase and was directed by Harold Ramis.
4. Paper Moon (1973)
Directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring Ryan and Tatum O'Neal, Paper Moon was partially filmed in St. Joseph.
5. Up in the Air (2009)
Filming was mostly done in St. Louis. The movie stars George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick, and was directed by Jason Reitman.
6. Sometimes They Come Back
This made-for-TV horror movie was filmed partially in Rocheport and Liberty. It stars Tim Matheson and Brooke Adams and was directed by Tom McLoughlan.
7. Winter's Bone (2010)
This film stars Jennifer Lawrence and was directed by Debra Granik. They filmed it in several parts of Missouri; Forsyth, Taney County, Christian County, and Branson.
