If you ask us, Missouri is one of the best places in America to grow up. The Show Me State offers so many unique experiences to locals, and growing up in our great state changes you in ways you may not realize. If you've moved away from Missouri, you might have realized that residing here has ruined you. It's not all bad though - you just see things a little differently now.

1. You love to watch a big summer storm.

Missourians love to watch big storms roll in. While non-natives batten down the hatches, Missourians will head to the porch to see the action. Some people have had close calls because of it. but most of us have learned to take the tornado sirens seriously!

2. You know the best wines come from the heartland.

California has Napa Valley and France has Bordeaux, but here in Missouri we have Hermann. This little German town sits on the bluffs above the Missouri River and it's fertile hills are perfect for growing grapes. There is nothing better than a delicious Norton from Missouri.

3. You believe in big comebacks.

Missouri sports teams have taught us to be loyal and to have hope. We've seen huge comebacks from all of our favorite sports teams. That makes us big believers in the underdog!

4. You know that fall is the best season.

Every October Missouri bursts into color. Leaves across the state turn yellow, red, and orange and make for a beautiful background for hikes and nature walks.

5. You're not interested in BBQ from those other states.

The best barbecue comes from Missouri and we're not afraid to tell you. Our sweet barbecue sauces perfectly complement an array of smoked meats. Plus, Kansas City has perfected burnt ends and has introduced a whole new side of barbecuing to the world.

6. You understand why Missouri is known as the Gateway to the West.

Most kids born in the late 1980's or early 1990's played the Oregon Trail computer game. However, Missourians already knew that great migration west started right here in Missouri. Every Labor Day weekend in Independence, the annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days Festival. This huge party celebrates the towns connection to the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon trails. Playing the Oregon Trail has a whole new meaning after seeing the trails birth place.

7. You get your kicks on Route 66!

Another important path west got it's start in Missouri. The number 66 was assigned to the Chicago-to-Los Angeles route on April 30, 1926 in Springfield. The highway was 2,448 miles long and became a major tourist attraction. Missourians appreaciate a good road trip. We can't fathom why someone wouldn't want to take a nice long drive with no destination in mind.

8. You don't think it's odd to get married underground.

Once you head underground into a Missouri cave, you'll have a whole new understanding of the phrase "awe inspiring". In fact, one Missouri cave is so beautiful that brides have been having their weddings here for decades. It's impossible to forget the cool, serenity of a Missouri cave.

9. You take homecoming very seriously.

Over 100 years ago, the University of Missouri introduced the concept of homecoming to it's alumni. In 1911, Missouri head coach Chester Brewer invited alums to "Come Back Home" for the Tigers’ game against the University of Kansas. The tradition of homecoming has spread across the country, but Missourians pride themselves in their passionate homecoming celebrations.

10. You know ravioli is best served toasted.

If you're a Missourian who's moved out of state, you're probably dreaming about toasted raviolis. These perfectly fried pastas are far and above their boiled counterparts. After having tasted toasted ravioli there's no other fried food that can compare.
