Living in Missouri is definitely its own experience. With most of the state being rural, and so much of the land dedicated to parks and nature areas, most of its residents have a much different experience than those who live in one of our cities. While these may not be the best kept secrets, they are some things non-natives may not know.
1. Rural traffic jams exist.
But are usually caused by tractors.
2. There are caves all over the state.
From spelunking in small hidden unknown caves to a lighted and guided tour of one of the more famous ones, "the cave state" is sure to please all types of explorers.
3. Kansas City is actually in Missouri.
Although there IS a Kansas City, Kansas, the larger, more famous one is in Missouri.
4. Missouri is especially proud of its native Mark Twain.
He was born and raised in Hannibal, and got inspiration for his books from his hometown and the adjoining Mississippi River.
5. Not even Missouri natives can agree on its pronunciation.
Sometimes it’s Missour(ee) and sometimes it’s Missour(uh).
6. We also can’t agree on what to call our carbonated beverages.
Some say "soda" and others say "pop."
7. You don’t need a boat to float.
Float trips are a popular pastime in Missouri, and all you need is something to float on (and maybe some beer).
8. There’s an even better fried appetizer than your everyday mozzarella stick.
Deep fried ravioli is a St. Louis favorite. It is basically just a meat filled ravioli that is…well…deep fried, and usually served with a marinara dipping sauce.
9. Chicago and New York aren’t the only ones with their own style of pizza.
St. Louis-style pizza sets itself apart by being made with Provel cheese, a combination of provolone and cheddar and swiss cheeses.
10. Kansas City Chief fans are the loudest fans ever.
Chiefs fans have been recognized by Guinness World Records as the loudest fan base in the world among outdoor stadiums since September 2014. The stadium’s record is 142.2 decibels, which is the like of standing about 164 feet down the runway from a jet.
11. We have the absolute best barbeque.
Kansas City in particular is known for its barbeque and there are loads of restaurants vying for the absolute best with unique special sauces and variety of smoked meats.
12. Weather forecasters in Missouri have the hardest job.
The weather is completely unpredictable and can change on a dime. Dress in layers and bring your umbrella.

14. We are avid baseball fans.
Whether rooting for the Kansas City Royals or the St. Louis Cardinals, Missourians take their baseball very seriously.
