We might have just happily welcomed spring, but summer will be here before we know it. Summer in Missouri promises a whole lot of good, too, from lazy days at the beach and backyard barbecues to trips to the amusement park and floats on our favorite river. If the Farmers’ Almanac predictions for Missouri for summer 2023 prove true, it also means summer’s temperatures will sizzle.
Summer 2022 was a record breaker in the United States, with an average daily temperature of 73.9 degrees from June 1 through August 31, the official meteorological summer. That summer, in fact, was the third-hottest on record, says the Farmers’ Almanac.
While summer officially arrives on June 21, 2023, the start of meteorological summer is June 1 and runs through the end of August. In the world of meteorology, each season lasts three months.
The previous summer, 2021, was also a scorcher, ranking as another of the hottest summers on record. Are the last two summers foreshadowing what we can expect from summer 2023?
Here in Missouri, we can expect a summer that’s broiling wet. While the Farmers’ Almanac doesn’t predict temperatures, it does provide an outlook for each week of the season.
Thunderstorms are expected from June 20-23, 2023, right when the official start of summer begins, which will then be followed by hot, dry days in Missouri.
June ends with hot weather while we’ll welcome July with some potentially severe weather throughout the Midwest, including Missouri. The Farmers’ Almanac warns that there could be the potential for tornados at the beginning of the month followed by a scorcher for the Fourth of July.
The entire three-month meteorological summer predominately features hot temperatures and thunderstorms.
Mentions of hot weather disappear in September, the beginning of the metrological fall. Temperatures are expected to be “pleasant” throughout much of the month.
