The teddy bear is among the most well known of all Mississippi inventions; however, not many are aware that Mississippi is home to the world’s largest collection of stuffed bears. It’s pretty unbelievable, especially when you take into account that the enormous collection is tucked away in a tiny town.
No other bear collection compares to the one found at the Teddy Bear House Museum in Picayune, a small town in Pearl River County.
The “beary” unique museum opened in Picayune in 2015; however, the museum’s roots go back a bit further.
After running the museum in Louisiana for quite some time, the owner decided to move the museum to Mississippi, which only seemed right given the state’s link to the stuffed bear.
Today, visitors of all ages can visit the museum and embark on a “magical tour through fantasy and history.”
The museum houses more than 15,000 stuffed bears, which is touted as the largest collection of bears in the world.
A fun visit for all ages, the museum is set up like a house and has several different rooms. Each room features a unique theme, but all rooms share one undeniable similarity – they’re stuffed to the brim with bears.
Bears in all forms, shapes, and sizes are scattered throughout. There’s more to the museum than stuffed bears, though.
Bear-themed memorabilia, such as books and records, is also plentiful.
Since opening, the museum has delighted visitors from all around the globe, and you should be one of them! Have any questions? Call the museum at (601) 778-2327. So, did you know about this unique museum in small town Mississippi? Ever been? If so, what’d you think? Know of another must-visit museum in Mississippi? Tell us!
Believe it or not, this "beary" unique museum isn’t the only must-visit in Picayune. The small town is also home to one of the best drive-ins in Mississippi.
