If you like to play it safe, you’re in the right place! Safewise recently released a list of the 10 safest places to live in Mississippi, and we’ve got all the details – some of which may surprise you, while others are likely right on par with your expectations. Without further ado, here are the safest cities in Mississippi:
After digging through the data from Safewise, the 10 safest cities in Mississippi for 2022 are: Petal (#1), Brandon, Hernando, Clinton, Long Beach, Ocean Springs, Bay St. Louis, Oxford, Richland, and Horn Lake (#10).
Petal topped the list of safest towns to live in Mississippi, and its 2022 stats are impressive. There were zero violent crimes reported for the year, and very low property crime rates, too.
Both Horn Lake and Ocean Springs made repeat appearances in the list of safest cities in the state, which is good news to these towns' residents!
Looking at the data, all 10 of the safest cities on the list have lower violent crime rates compared to the rest of the state.
Mississippi's violent crime rate increased year over year from 2.6 reported per 1,000 residents to 2.9. Still, the state's safest cities generally have lower crime rates than the rest of The Magnolia State.
Just like last year, package theft is a major concern of residents throughout the state.
Some 18% of participants reported experiencing package theft 12 months, which, while high, puts Mississippi below the national average of 20%.
In other positive news, Mississippians reported one-quarter fewer personal experiences with property crime this year (24%) compared to last year (32%).
