We all know that Mississippi is a great place to live. The state is full of small towns and charming cities that anybody would be happy to call home. However, according to the website Home Snacks, there are a few cities that stand out above the rest. After analyzing factors, such as home values, crime, and poverty rates, for places with populations over 5,300, the website named the following 10 cities the best places to live in Mississippi. 10. Petal

Although Petal is only home to about 11,000, it boasts an impressive arts scene and variety of ethnic restaurants. The residents also enjoy high annual salaries, a low unemployment rate, and minimal crime, making it an overall great place to live.

9. Long Beach

As if being located right on the Gulf isn’t awesome enough, Long Beach residents enjoy a low unemployment rate, high salaries, and a student teacher ratio of 12:1, which is the lowest in the state.

8. Oxford

A charming small town with lots of things to do, Oxford is well deserving of being named one of Mississippi’s best places to live. In addition to a lively social scene, the city boasts a low unemployment rate and high median income.

7. Southaven

Though home to more than 50,000 people, Southaven boasts the 8th lowest crime rate in the entire state. Aside from a sense of safety, the city has some of the best schools in Mississippi along with one of the state’s highest median incomes.

6. Hernando

A small town that’s big on perks, Hernando has a lot to offer its residents, including access to great schools good paying jobs.

5. Olive Branch

Moving up two spots from last year, Olive Branch has a crime rate that’s well below the state average along with an exceptionally low poverty rate.

4. Ocean Springs

Though high salaries and a low crime rate are major pluses, that’s not all residents of this coastal town have to brag about. Dubbed a "cultural community," Ocean Springs features an incredible arts scene and lots of ethnic eateries.

3. Ridgeland

In addition to being the hometown of country artist Faith Hill, Ridgeland has a few other noteworthy qualities. Aside from being a nice place to live overall, residents of the Jackson suburb are "employed gainfully" and have access to well funded public schools.

2. Brandon

Taking the title of the state’s 2nd best place to live, Brandon is a Jackson suburb with a low unemployment rate and the 3rd lowest crime rate in the entire state.

1. Madison

Named Mississippi’s best place to live for the 2nd year in a row, Madison is a charming suburb located just outside of Jackson. And with the state’s highest median income per household and a basically non-existent crime rate, it’s easy to see why the city’s population has increased more than 30 percent in the last five years.
