When it comes to the 2024-2025 winter predictions for Minnesota, I may have good news, and I may have bad news - depending on where you come down on the whole winter in Minnesota thing to begin with. Let's check out this year's Farmers' Almanac winter forecast for Minnesota to see where we land.
With the latest updates to its winter weather predictions for Minnesota, the venerable and eerily reliable Farmers' Almanac says the 2024 to 2025 winter in Minnesota will be milder than usual.
Such predictions are rather counterintuitive when compared with the typical weather patterns for the Land of 10,000 Lakes during La Niña years, as we are currently enjoying. But, if the warm, dry fall we've had so far is any indicator, the Almanac seems spot on so far.
That could be considered bad news for folks who love winter, and especially businesses who rely on cold - like ice fishing outfitters and resorts and ski areas - for livelihoods, especially after last winter's record warm temperatures and near-record lack of snow.
Speaking of snow, according to Farmers' Almanac, 2024 winter in Minnesota will also be less snowy than normal. After last year's near-record lack of snowfall, snow sports enthusiasts and businesses that rely on snowfall will just have to keep their fingers crossed that "average" means historically average, and below means slightly below - rather than another new surprise from our out-of-wack climate.
No matter what happens this year, remember that winter in Minnesota is usually beautiful.
Even if you're enjoying it through a window and next to a fire or out in a hoodie and shorts, there's something stark and lovely about it.
Many of us come from Scandinavian stock and adhere to the old adage, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. So, be sure to dress appropriately, no matter what the weather brings.
Getting outside certainly helps to make the winter days go a little faster, no matter what the temperatures are. And there are definitely winter activities in Minnesota you can do that will have you feeling downright warm, even when the temperatures say otherwise.
If you're not a lover of winter, rest assured that, at some point, the ice and snow will start to melt, the air will begin to warm, and winter will be over.
This cycle is just how we do things in Minnesota.
Four seasons and phenology keep things interesting for us Minnesotans! So, what are your thoughts on the 2024-2025 winter weather predictions in Minnesota? Do you think the Farmers' Almanac got it right? Let us know in the comments!
