Let's face it: everyday life sure can be stressful. Whether you're a stay-at-home parent or a career-driven Michigander, there's nothing better than taking a break and unwinding every now and then. Luckily for us, the Great Lakes State is home to one amazing and historic bathhouse that offers visitors the chance to sit back, relax, and watch their troubles simply melt away. You're in for a rejuvenating experience.
The Schvitz Health Club is located at 8295 Oakland Avenue in Detroit.
When you visit this one-of-a-kind destination, you’ll feel like you’ve taken a journey back in time. After all, the Schvitz first opened its doors in 1930 and boasts a truly storied past.
The bathhouse has its roots in Judaism and served as a meeting place for everyone from Prohibition-era mobsters to everyday Michiganders throughout its earlier years.
Since its reopening in 2017, though, the bathhouse has maintained a focus on allowing patrons to unwind, relax, and reconnect while honoring a variety of spiritual traditions.
When you decide to make the trip, you’ll find stunning architecture and impeccable decor that will sweep you back to the building’s origins. Each visit to the bathhouse costs $30.
Sessions are broken into three categories: men only, women only, and co-ed. Admission includes towels and locker but guests are encouraged to bring their own robes and sandals.
Relax in the pool, unwind in a soothing sauna, or simply appreciate the atmosphere. For an additional cost, you can also enjoy massages, acupuncture, and other spa services.
Whether you’re stopping by for a first-time visit or renting out the Schvitz for your next special event, you’ll quickly fall in love with this lovely and history-rich Motor City destination.
