2015 was an interesting year for Maryland. There were several top news stories, the most influential definitely being the Freddie Gray case. There were also unusual things that happened as a result of the Baltimore unrest, as well as weird news stories from all around the state. Today we're looking back at some of the most insane things that happened in Maryland in 2015.
1. The "Baltimore Mom" smack went viral.

Toya Graham spotted her son among Baltimore protesters and took matters into her own hands. There were a few naysayers judging her actions, but most people (especially Maryland residents) applauded her actions.
2. The Orioles played to an empty stadium.
Also a result of the unrest in Baltimore, due to safety concerns, the Orioles played the White Sox to a crowd of zero. The Orioles ended up winning and history was made, in the most surreal of ways.
3. Geoff Britten became runner-up in American Ninja Warrior.
Olney based Geoff Britten became runner-up in the 2015 American Ninja Warrior competition. Several Maryland fans still think he deserves credit for being the first to climb up the rope and being the only ninja to complete all courses this season.
4. A runaway blimp became famous.
A NORAD blimp broke loose from its Aberdeen base. It collided with power lines, knocking out power for 35,000 people. It was the most any of us cared about a blimp in a LONG time.
5. Annapolis couple purchased a snake-infested home.
What has now become a very talked about case happened in Annapolis when a couple was sold a snake-infested home, in which the realtor allegedly knew of the infestation. Inside the walls were snake feces, dead snakes, and also live ones, which would occasionally slither out of cracks. Indiana Jones's worst nightmare.
6. Batman died.
When several headlines boldly stated "Batman dead," it left a few folks scratching their heads. Most locals however were saddened to discover that beloved hero Lenny B. Robinson was struck by a car on Interstate 70. RIP Lenny
7. Several shark sightings in Ocean City
The sightings of the sharks themselves were not so insane. What was insane were the over-reactions of people assuming we can stop these great creatures from exploring our shoreline.
8. Gas prices dropped to under $2.00.
Marylanders rejoiced as the price of gasoline was the lowest in 6 years.
9. It was 70 degrees on Christmas day.

10. A Frederick corn maze went viral.

Summers Farm announced their 2015 corn maze design by posting the above video. It gained national attention and even Taylor Swift herself shared the image on Instagram.
