1. Clothing was certainly different than it is today.
This photo was taken in 1920 at The Southern Cigar Company in Manchester.
2. Dirt roads weren't uncommon.
This 1918 photo shows soldiers at Camp Meade.
3. Vehicles were unrecognizable.
Pictured here is an automobile tour through Baltimore's sanitary sewers (circa 1914).
4. Baltimore's streets were full of streetcar tracks.
Today you'll mostly find smooth roads, but you can visit Baltimore Streetcar Museum to brush up on history.
5. Stores were quaint -- and cheap.
Here's a former Five & Dime in Frederick, circa 1910. Nothing over 10 cents!
6. Clothing was hung out to dry.
This photo was snapped in Greenbelt in 1938.
7. Many people worked in factories...
This is Hendrick Motor Company in Takoma Park. The photo was snapped between 1910 and 1920.
8. And there were a lot more farms, too.
Here's a Baltimore area fruit farm in 1919.
9. And don't forget the bustling railroad industry.

10. The C&O Canal was actually in operation.
It operated from 1831 until 1924.
