Hoping to be pals with a Mainer? It's easy. Be nice to our friends and family and don't make fun of the place we call home. If that's not specific enough, read on to find out what we don't take kindly to. From the way you speak to the things you ask, here are a few things that annoy Mainers.
1. Come to visit and stay inside if it's cold.
Let's get out there! Not even cold Maine temps in the winter can keep a Mainer from enjoying the world around them.
2. Try to talk us out of buying it when we see it Marden's.
Always, always buy it when you see it at Marden's!
3. Make fun of our winters because you can't fathom the cold weather.
For some of us, winters are the reason we're here!
4. But, at the same time, we don't want to hear about how great it is in Florida in January.
We might love Maine winters, but that doesn't mean these photos are easy to see.
5. Use this work in a sentence that rhymes with "sleigh."
If you're not sure how to pronounce it, consider staying put below Bangor.
6. Closing the schools without an actual blizzard.
We're Mainers, we can take it! And we're already out of things to do with the kids on winter weekends, forget about school days!
7. Suggest we wait in line for a lobster roll you saw on TV.
Chances are we can find a better one.
8. Try to tell us that Southern Maine is just like the rest of the state.
Have you been to The County? Toto, you're not in Kansas anymore.

9. Or, try to offer us a lobster roll that's less than perfect.
By "less than perfect" we mean full of mayo and not nearly enough actual meat.
10. Suggest that we're not bundled up enough in the winter.
We don't require the same level of bundle as you folks from away. We're used to this!
11. Talk about Portland, without clarifying that you mean Oregon.
Portland MAINE is what we care about. It was the first Portland and the only real one in our eyes!
