In some ways this list was hard to write because people in New Orleans just love to let each other live and let live---meaning there aren't very strict rules about what's normal and what's weird. Just about anything can be In New Orleans, a lot of things that are considered weird are actually quite normal. We just like to do things our own way, there's no doubt about that. Here are some extremely weird things only people from New Orleans do.
1. Put on a sweater and pants when it hits 75 degrees.
When you’ve been sweltering all summer, it can really feel cold even when it’s only barely under 80.
2. Dance in the street—or on the sidewalk—or on people’s porches.
To us, it’s all part of normal everyday life in New Orleans.
3. No burying those that have passed in the ground.
When the dirt is so watery, it doesn’t quite make sense.
4. Run around wearing red dresses--whether you are a woman or not.
If it’s for a good cause (and a lot of fun), New Orleanians will do anything.
5. Talk about what you are going to eat next---before you finish eating the meal in front of you.
Really, if you want to be real New Orleans, your best bet is to make a whole food schedule.
6. Not using north, south, east, and west.
Here, it’s Uptown, Downtown, River, Lake. It makes it easier when you’re living on a curve.
7. Say hello to one another when we pass each other in the street.
This really shouldn’t be weird, but for some reason it is.
8. We make groceries, instead of buying them.
Not sure why...but that's just how it is.
9. Wear costumes for days before Halloween.
We basically take Halloween as Mardi Gras and costumes are Kosher up to three days before Halloween. Besides, costumes are basically to be expected anytime, any place. Just one reason people tend to wonder, "Why is New Orleans so weird?"
10. If running of the bulls doesn’t happen in New Orleans, we bring the bullrun to us.
Including a bunch of women on roller skates bopping you!
