From the top floor of the Bentley Hotel in Alexandria to the Cities of the Dead in New Orleans, Louisiana has been a hotbed for ghost stores and paranormal encounters for generations. There’s one particular bar hiding on one of Louisiana’s most famous streets that’s said to be one of the most haunted bars in the state, and it’s worth checking out. Who knows? You might just have a paranormal encounter of your own.
Welcome to Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar, one of the oldest bars in the country.
It’s actually the oldest building currently being used as a bar in the nation.
Built in the 1770s, it’s one of the oldest surviving structures in New Orleans.
And you’ll find it at 941 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA 70116.
It’s is one of the most popular watering holes for those who find themselves in the French Quarter and needing a beverage (or two).
It’s certainly a must-stop attraction when you’re in New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood.
At night, the dimly lit bar takes on quite the different appearance. Many believe it’s haunted, and not just by one ghost.
There are believed to be several spirits that just can’t seem to move on at Lafitte’s, and one of the most seen spirits is the infamous pirate Jean Lafitte, who many believe used the building to run his illegal smuggling business.
He’s often seen in the corner, lurking in the shadows.
If your eyes meet, he’ll vanish right before your very eyes. So if you think you see something out of the corner of your eye, you might not be so quick to pass it off on the booze.
The fireplace is another paranormal hotspot.
But this time, it’s not necessarily a friendly spirit. Many patrons and employees have seen a pair of glowing eyes floating in the fireplace. Whether it’s a demon or one too many Hurricanes, you’ll have to be the judge.
But even if you don't see a spirit, you'll be in the presence of some strong spirits in another form.
And these spirits are undeniable!
