You're home!
Whether you come back through Texas, Mississippi, or Arkansas, it's such a welcome sight to see the Louisiana Welcome sign.
When you come in from the east and cross over the Pearl River, it's like the river welcomes you back home.
Or at least kicks you out of Mississippi. Sorry, Mississippi, we love you... but the best part about Mississippi is leaving it!
The Junction City state line might be the most unconventional state border in the country.
Have you ever driven through it? It's a streetlight! So often, we are going 70 MPH on the highway when we enter a new state, it's a bit of a shock when you find yourself at a four-way stop, with Louisiana in front of you and Arkansas behind you.
If you find yourself driving from Dallas to Shreveport often, then you're very familiar with the I-20 welcome sign.

And seeing the Shreveport skyline is pure gold.
Many states are a drag to drive through (we're looking at you, Texas), but the drive across Louisiana can be one of the most beautiful in the country.
Especially the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. There are miles and miles of scenic waterways to watch! Turn up the volume and let your drive be scored to Jazz, Zydeco, Swamp Pop, or any of your favorite Louisiana artists.
No matter how long you're away, Louisiana will always welcome you back with open arms.
And a plate of something delicious.

1. Touchdown Jesus
The shadow of the statue of Christ in St. Anthony's Garden on the wall of St. Louis Cathedral has been nicknamed "Touchdown Jesus" by locals for many years. I'm pretty sure Jesus is a Saints fan... I mean, it just makes sense!
2. Tabasco!
Growing up in Louisiana, you know this famous little red bottle graces the tabletops of just about every restaurant and home kitchen in the state. Sure, you may prefer another Louisiana hot sauce brand, but we all know where it started.
3. Muses shoes
It's not uncommon to walk into a Louisianian's home and see a few stylish shoes adorning a bookshelf... these iconic shoes are one of the most coveted throws during Mardi Gras!. Life in Louisiana sure is interesting!

4. Atchafalaya Basin Bridge
Love it or hate it, the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge is an iconic landmark in Louisiana. This is one bridge you'll want to have some road trip snacks for because you'll usually end up fighting traffic at some point!
5. Zulu Coconut
Sorry Muses, but there's one Mardi Gras throw that reigns supreme, and that's the Zulu coconut. Bonus points if you remember back to when riders were allowed to throw these bad boys into the crowd! These days, they're handed to lucky parade goers after it was determined that we're really not that great at catching these things at 9 a.m. in the morning.

6. This iconic spot in New Orleans’ City Park
Doesn't this beautiful spot look like it was ripped right from a Monet painting? City Park in New Orleans is overflowing with iconic images, but few can compare to this scenic spot.
7. Crescent City Connection Bridge
Speaking of bridges, the Crescent City Connection is another iconic bridge in Louisiana... and another one that you'll either love or hate, depending on the traffic that day.
8. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway
Locals will know those Causeway mile markers anywhere. They become part of your dreams. Why are there so many?! Guess it's all part of Louisiana life.

9. The Buddha Statue on Avery Island
If you've ever taken a tour of the Tabasco Plant on Avery Island and spent some time wandering around the Jungle Gardens, you've undoubtedly noticed this unique feature. The statue was given to Jungle Gardens founder E. A. McIlhenny in 1936 by two of his friends in New York City. The statue is believed to be more than 900 years old and has become an iconic part of Avery Island.
10. Backyard crawfish boils
I know you can get crawfish in a restaurant, but let's be honest. Backyard crawfish just hits different! Nowadays it's harder to come across newspapers but in my opinion, it's necessary to complete the look! Bonus points for the Abita beers, that's always going to be a dynamic duo.
